Homecourt Northwest, Washington

My son was part of the first groups to attend sessions conducted by Rob Jackson, founder of HomeCourt Northwest, located in Woodinville, WA. The first sessions my son attended were when he was in the fourth grade. Lessons would be held once a week with each lesson plan building and enforcing skills taught the week before. Rob would transport any special training equipment to each session in the back of his SUV.

At the end of my son's first group of lessons, a basketball game was put on the schedule to demonstrate the play and skills of these young players. The main floor of a local school was used with stands drawn out, main scoreboard on, PA system working and music playing. Parents, relatives and friends were in attendance and the players were introduced. What a thrill for a bunch of young kids.

From those humble, yet always professional, beginnings HomeCourt NW built a basketball facility of their own. The pride of ownership is often shown as Rob walks the floor checking for dust or scuff marks and making sure everything is in its rightful place. My son was one of the first to walk into the new facility and was in complete awe of the gym. It is a beautiful facility with great lighting, a hi-fi sound system, and video recording capabilities. The video of play can be broken down and analyzed, by coaches and players, on a large screen TV in an adjoining conference room. There are several racks of balls that also include the 28.5” balls for the younger players and girls. All training equipment is kept in a storage room off the court. There is even a viewing area high above the floor for the parents to relax and watch the lessons.

The ratio of players to instructors was always kept to a minimum from their humble beginnings and they pride themselves on those same standards today. A typical session will have no more than a 4:1 player to instructor ratio. Every player walks through the doors of HomeCourt is made to feel that they are special. As from the beginning, each ending of a grouped session is sent off in a fan fair fashion. With the new facility, as games are played to end a session, custom folding seats are placed courtside bringing the fans closer to the action. It brings everything full circle, not just focusing on the players, but also the family and friends that support the athlete.

A player that enters the HomeCourt facility for the first time will know that they have walked into something special. Find out more on their website.
